Chris and Barabara talked about to main topics today: Popcorn and " Blowing Up The Gradebook." Popcorn is an application that allows you to re-make videos. It sounded really interesting. Apparently it allows you to make them more interactive, like add images directly to your video, links, banners, and sounds. You can see the video and the "artifact" at the same time. Dr. Chris shared his presentation that he did at Portland Ignite. They discussed how "the new teacher" is going to have to lead classrooms differently thanks to today's technologies. Due dates, homework, and quizzes are now thought to be punishments now. Dr. Chris discussed how the classroom should start to look more like playing an online, so every advances at their own pace. But that teachers still plan and lead students through the class, because teachers are still vital to the classroom.
I thought his presentation was really good, so here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atMlkVgzx-Y
Though I think that letting kids go on their own pace is a neat idea I don't necessarily agree with it, I think that it would be to hard to keep up with what the kids now
ReplyDeleteI thought this was interesting. Popcorn seems like something that could be a good educational source. It sounds fun and affective!
ReplyDeleteI think that it is a great idea to transform the classroom to make it more interesting, but I still think that due dates, homework, and quizzes are still really important. They gauge how well your students are understanding the information. And I don't think that they will ever not be seen as a "punishment."
ReplyDeletePopcorn does seem like a good source for teachers! I think that students now days need to be taught different ways of learning and I think by incorporating two different approaches at the same time serves as a good idea!... I do however find it sad that quizzes and homework are being given as punishment.
