I found a podcast called " The Cool Teacher Podcast," and decided to listen to it. It is like a radio talk show by two professors at Boise State University. The hosts are Dr. Chris Haskell and Dr.Barbara Schroeder. Professor Schroeder teaches the introductory course and final course of the education technology studies at Boise State. Dr. Haskell teaches education tech two and like a virtual world class online.They talked about what first year teachers need to know about communication, and they advise the use of MailChimp. Which allows you to create a subscription list and add the parents, and they can remove themselves anytime they want. It can help you create a virtual newsletter to send out and you can includes images, videos, and sound clips. The next subject they covered was digital literacy. They stated that embracing change is so important in today's classrooms. Everything seems to be changing so quickly, but you need to be able to accept and embrace the changes.
The Mailchimp subscription sounds interesting.Newsletters are always a good way to keep people up to date with what is going on!
ReplyDeleteI agree I like the idea of the mailchimp subscription to help provide the parents with information to help their kids. I can think of a lot of ways to use it for my future classes. I will probably start listening to this podcast too it seems like good information.
ReplyDeleteI think the Mailchimp sounds like a great idea. It sounds like a great way to keep parents in the loop about whats going on at school. I can remember feeling like I didn't know what kind of things were going on at school, I felt like only certain people knew and not everyone. I wish my school had something like that.

ReplyDeleteI think that this podcast is a great idea for new teachers. Most new teachers don't really know what they are doing, and it probably helps a lot to have ideas of how to help with things that are in addition to just the teaching.

ReplyDeleteI really like what they said about change, because it's so true! I think it's also important to remember that along with embracing change, we have to keep up with it!
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a very user friendly and easy way to introduce technology in your classroom. I know that I am not overly comfortable using some of the newer technology, especially in a classroom setting, but these useful tools seem to make it more appealing and fun to use these technologies in the class.

ReplyDeleteI think this podcast would be a great one for every upcoming teacher to subscribe to. It seems like it would show how teachers can incorporate technology not only with the kids, but also with their parents to keep them informed.
