Episode 85

During this episode Barbara discusses how Chris' video "Blowing Up the Classroom" changed the way she changed her teaching for her online class. First she changed how she does assignments, she now makes them more collaborative and encourages students to communicate with each other  Another way was letting her students work through her course at their own pace, and not a decided itinerary.  VoiceThread is a way to change up discussions boards. She also eliminated the competition of grades. Students grade themselves based on how well they think they're doing. The next topic was augmented reality apps. Aris lets you create your own game, it sounded really interesting. Then they talked about Zooburst! I thought was super cool, that we've used that technology and we're not the only ones to use it. DragonBox is an app used to help with math. Apparently DragonBox was preferred over Angry Birds. It is used to help younger kids learn algebra, definitely something to look into. Apps Gone Free, is a app to help you know when an app you might want becomes free or lowers in price. Would be great for everyone to remember!
